Sequence Alignment

1. Introduction

Sequence alignment is a method to compare two or more biological sequences (protein sequences, nucleotide sequences), which can help us understand the similarity between these sequences and how they change in the process of evolution. Sequence alignment is a common tool in many biological research fields, including genomics, evolutionary biology, medicine and biotechnology.

The Sequence Alignment module of Hermite ® platform provides the function of protein sequence alignment and supports multiple sequence alignment.

2. How to use

2.1 Entrance

  • The left general menu bar is Menu → Function → Biomacromolecule → Sequence Alignment.

2.2 Operation

  • Import Sequence: There are two ways to import a sequence:

    • Input the sequence in the Sequence box. For multiple sequence alignment of three or more sequences, click Add Sequence to add the input box, and input the sequence in the input box, and the Sequence name can be modified;

    • Supports.fasta file uploads.

    Note: The length of the input single sequence should be less than 2000, and only standard amino acids are supported.

  • Name the task at Job Name.

  • Submit submits the task.

3. Analysis of results

3.1 Entrance

  • General menu bar on the left: Menu Job → Find the required task.

  • The task can be found by searching for the Job Name, or by filtering the Job Type.

3.2.2 Explanation of results

  • By ticking Hydrophobic, Polar Uncharged, Positively Charged, Negatively Charged, Special, Hydrophobic amino acids (green), polar amino acids with no charge (purple), positively charged amino acids (blue), negatively charged amino acids (red), special amino acid (yellow) can be labeled.
